Cardiomiopatia dilatada em cães

Abstract

A cardiomiopatia dilatada (CMD) é uma das doenças cardiovasculares mais comuns na prática clínica de animais de companhia, sendo uma doença miocárdica primária de caráter progressivo. O termo CMD é aplicado quando há insuficiência da contração do miocárdio, sendo uma doença específica do músculo cardíaco. Esta doença é pouco diagnosticada nos gatos e cães de raça pequena, afetando fundamentalmente raças grandes e gigantes, sendo o Dobermann considerado como a raça mais afetada. A doença evolui clinicamente entre o estadio oculto e sintomático. A CMD não é facilmente diagnosticada e muitas vezes é detetada numa fase relativamente avançada. Para o diagnóstico da CMD podemos recorrer a diversos exames complementares de diagnóstico, como a ecocardiografia, eletrocardiograma (ECG), exame holter, radiografia e exame histopatológico. O tratamento visa aliviar os sinais clínicos de insuficiência cardíaca (IC) bem como aumentar a qualidade de vida do animal, devendo ser ajustado ao estadio da doença bem como à gravidade dos sinais clínicos. Relativamente ao prognóstico, este depende de diversos fatores como o estadio da doença na altura do diagnóstico e a raça do paciente. Sabemos, no entanto, que o tempo de sobrevivência após aparecimento dos sinais clínicos é geralmente curto e o prognóstico é mau devido à rápida progressão da insuficiência cardíaca congestiva (ICC) na maioria dos casos.
