Etiologia e tratamento de mordida cruzada posterior na dentição decídua e mista

Abstract

A mordida cruzada posterior é uma das más oclusões mais prevalentes na dentição decídua e mista. Apesar de se apresentar mais frequentemente de forma unilateral, pode também observar-se bilateralmente. Desta forma, o conhecimento das características deste tipo de anomalia torna-se fundamental, com vista a um correto diagnóstico que faça a distinção das várias formas que esta má oclusão pode adquirir. Assim sendo, um estudo aprofundado dos fatores etiológicos em conjunto com um diagnóstico precoce e um plano de tratamento adequado, são de extrema importância, podendo, desta forma, travar a evolução, melhorar o prognóstico e até mesmo corrigir a mordida cruzada de forma definitiva. Nesta dissertação são abordados os fatores etiológicos a que esta má oclusão pode estar associada, a prevalência da mesma, a importância de um diagnostico correto, com vista a uma intervenção precoce e as várias hipóteses de tratamento.
