Prisioneiros : a face esquecida da guerra

Abstract

Após o final da Primeira Guerra Mundial e ao longo da década de 20, vários antigos prisioneiros portugueses – sobretudo oficiais do Exército – publicaram em livro as suas memórias dos meses que viveram nos campos de concentração alemães. Contudo, durante o Estado Novo e mesmo após a revolução de 25 de Abril de 1974, a historiografia dedicada à Grande Guerra praticamente ignorou a experiência do cativeiro dos quase oito mil militares e civis capturados pela Alemanha em África e na Europa. Só na última década, com o aproximar do centenário da Primeira Guerra Mundial, assistimos ao recuperar dessas memórias perdidas.
