Endodontia versus implantologia

Abstract

Existe, atualmente, uma grande controvérsia na escolha do tratamento para dentes gravemente comprometidos. Por um lado, pretendem-se preservar as estruturas dentárias naturais através do tratamento endodôntico e da respetiva restauração/reabilitação; por outro lado, a evolução dos materiais e técnicas implantológicas têm vindo a mimetizar estas estruturas com elevadas taxas de sobrevivência/sucesso. O médico-dentista é responsável pela identificação e avaliação de todos os critérios relevantes para a escolha do tratamento mais adequada, baseado na evidência científica mais atual. Ao decidir se um dente com um prognóstico questionável deve ser mantido ou substituído por um implante, devem ser considerados fatores relacionados com os tratamentos, fatores inerentes aos mesmos e fatores centrados no paciente. Uma avaliação metódica destes fatores vai permitir a decisão, juntamente com o paciente, da melhor opção terapêutica. Esta revisão tem o objetivo de reunir os critérios mais pertinentes e relevantes para essa decisão.
