Abstract

Introdução: A libertação de substâncias potencialmente tóxicas de resinas utilizadas em restauração provisória é motivo de apreensão em Medicina Dentária e, consequentemente, de investigação sobre a biocompatibilidade dos materiais dentários. Objetivo: O objetivo do presente estudo é determinar o grau de citotoxicidade de três diferentes monómeros, nomeadamente o metil metacrilato (MMA), o trietilenoglicol dimetacrilato (TEGDMA) e o dimetacrilato de diuretano (UDMA). Estas substâncias estão habitualmente associadas a resinas utilizadas em restauração provisória dentária, como as resinas Tab 2000®, Protemp 4TM e Structur 3®. Métodos: Foram feitas culturas de fibroblastos 3T3 e estas foram expostas a diferentes concentrações dos monómeros. A viabilidade celular e o grau de citotoxicidade de cada composto foram avaliados através de ensaios de MTT. Resultados: Há evidência de que os monómeros TEGDMA e UDMA são citotóxicos. Contudo, não foi possível verificar se os monómeros têm um efeito dose-dependente sobre a viabilidade celular e qual dos monómeros apresenta maior citotoxicidade. Conclusão: Os monómeros TEGDMA e UDMA têm efeitos citotóxicos ao nível dos fibroblastos, mas não há diferenças significativas no seu grau de citotoxicidade.
