Abstract

Por que razão a Índia e os EUA encetaram uma inédita parceria estratégica? Em primeiro lugar, americanos e indianos partilham a mesma identidade liberal (globalização económica; democracia liberal). Depois, a emergência imprevisível da China é um factor de preocupação em Washington e Nova Deli. Esta parceria indicia alguma mudança de fundo nos paradigmas da política internacional? Sim. A parceria EUA- -Índia mostra-nos um sistema inter-estatal crescentemente pós-Atlântico. O Atlântico Norte está a perder a centralidade que deteve durante os últimos séculos: estamos num mundo pós-Atlântico quer no que respeita à distribuição de poder estrutural, quer ao nível da identidade/legitimidade liberal. Este artigo chama a atenção para o facto de a Índia, além de ser um Grande Poder, ser também uma democracia liberal
