Abstract

O aparecimento dos anticorpos monoclonais apresentou-se como um passo científico de extrema importância, revolucionando tanto o mercado farmacêutico como a abordagem terapêutica de determinadas doenças. O aperfeiçoamento desta tecnologia tem permitido um maior alcance em patologias onde o conhecimento é escasso e uma melhoria nas terapêuticas já estabelecidas. Dos 14 anticorpos mais vendidos em 2013, três têm funções anti tumorais e cinco estão indicados no tratamento da artrite reumatóide, o que mostra que estas duas condições têm sido o foco da comunidade científica na área do desenvolvimento de anticorpos monoclonais. No último ano, o centro dos novos desenvolvimentos tem-se mantido nas neoplasias tendo sido aprovados mais dois anticorpos, com mecanismos de ação alternativos e revolucionários. No futuro, prevê-se um aumento da quota de mercado destes produtos estando em curso investigações para novas indicações terapêuticas como por exemplo o colesterol LDL elevado.
