AVALIAÇÃO DO CONSUMO ALIMENTAR DE ATLETAS

Abstract

No contexto da avaliação do consumo alimentar segundo a metodologia do Institute of Medicine (IOM), esta revisão tem o objetivo de identificar e analisar os métodos utilizados para avaliar o consumo alimentar de atletas, assim como avaliar a aplicação do método descrito pelas DRIs. A pesquisa foi realizada nas bases de dados Pubmed e Bireme, utilizando como critério de inclusão: apenas os artigos publicados a partir do ano de 2000 e a aplicação de métodos para avaliar o consumo alimentar de atletas. Encontrou­se 35 estudos que avaliaram o consumo alimentar de atletas, principalmente de homens, a maior parte avaliando o consumo após inquérito de 3 a 4 dias. Os achados mostram que há uma tendência de uso do registro alimentar (RA) ou do questionário de frequência alimentar (QFCA) isolados ou associados com outros métodos. Apenas 28% dos trabalhos usaram a metodologia das DRIs para avaliar a ingestão de nutrientes e só nove estudos realizaram a avaliação de consumo corretamente, segundo essa metodologia. Conclui­se que não há um padrão definido para avaliação do consumo alimentar de atletas, contudo foi detectada uma tendência de uso do RA como método de inquérito. É necessário maior e melhor utilização da metodologia definida pelo IOM, para maior validade dos estudos que se propõem a avaliar, em atletas, a ingestão de nutrientes.
