Abstract

As infecções hospitalares podem ser evitadas pelo controlo de determinados factores inerentes aos profissionais, material, ambiente. Neste momento, existe legislação própria de forma a regulamentar procedimentos que evitam a propagação da infecção e/ou dos agentes que a causam. A Pseudomonas aeruginosa é uma bactéria gram-negativa oportunista responsável por grande parte das infecções hospitalares. Pelo facto de ser oportunista é mais frequente em pacientes imunocomprometidos, sujeitos a transplantes, intervenções cirúrgicas, entre outros. Em suma, esta tese contribui para a compreensão da biologia da P. aeruginosa, tratamento antibacteriano e sua resistência, bem como compreender a influência do estado metabólico dos indivíduos na infecção. Este estudo teve como objectivo compreender os factores de resistência manifestados pela P.aeruginosa no sentido de desenvolver alternativas terapêuticas para este agente. Numa primeira fase foram caracterizados 72 isolados hospitalares de P. aeruginosa e 91,67% manifestou resistência a mais do que 3 classes de Antimicrobianos.
