Responsabilidade social e voluntariado corporativo: um estudo exploratório

Abstract

In recent years, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has garnered increasing interest both within organizational settings and in academic research. One of the ways in which organizations pursue their CSR strategies is through the development of corporate volunteering programmes. Despite the progress made in this field over recent years, there remains a paucity of studies exploring the connection between corporate social responsibility and corporate volunteering, particularly within the Portuguese context. This dissertation aims to examine the willingness of organizations to engage in volunteering as a means of advancing their corporate social responsibility strategies. Given the objective of the study, a qualitative methodology was employed, based on semi-structured interviews conducted with various organizations. The results revealed that the organizations interviewed express significant concern regarding the topic. However, there remains limited openness and several constraints in implementing volunteering strategies within these organizations. The findings further indicate that, in most cases, the initiatives for implementing volunteering activities originate from employees, who also often take the lead in their execution. Nonetheless, awareness and volunteering strategies are expected to remain part of organizational practices in the coming years, with the primary objective of enhancing employee engagement by making such projects accessible and beneficial to all individuals concerned with social, environmental, and ethical issues. The interviews also allowed for an assessment of the motivation levels of participating employees, as well as the observed impacts on their well-being and mental health. The study also suggests that, although organizational representatives expressed a willingness to initiate new volunteering projects, their current focus lies in consolidating the initiatives already underway.
