Lesões pavimentosas com envolvimento glandular: citologia convencional versus citologia de base líquida

Abstract

Portugal é o país da Europa Ocidental com a maior taxa de incidência de cancro do colo do útero, sendo a sua principal causa a infeção pelo Vírus do Papiloma Humano (HPV). A citologia cérvico-vaginal é o método de rastreio mais utilizado para a prevenção e deteção do cancro do colo do útero, quer por meio convencional, quer por base líquida. As preparações citológicas convencionais apresentam mais desvantagens do que as preparações de base líquida, no entanto, quando se trata de lesões glandulares, tanto a citologia convencional como a de base líquida apresentam algumas limitações. No presente trabalho, relata-se o caso de uma mulher de 31 anos cujos resultados dos exames citológicos de rastreio divergem dos diagnósticos histológicos. Com este estudo, pretende-se salientar as limitações do esfregaço convencional quando comparado com a citologia de base líquida no diagnóstico de lesões glandulares.
