Nos últimos anos, a resistência aos antibióticos registou um aumento significativo, tornando urgente a pesquisa de novos agentes antibacterianos para o combate de infeções. Os extratos brutos ou os compostos biologicamente ativos isolados de plantas usadas na medicina popular podem ser fontes promissoras para a pesquisa de novos antimicrobianos. Neste enquadramento, a Chelidonium majus – planta pertencente à família Papaveraceae – apresenta várias propriedades, entre as quais atividade antimicrobiana e, como tal, é objeto de estudo frente a vários microrganismos.
