Abstract

ABSTRACT: The sports sector is a complex area, where communication plays a major role in managing relations with the different audiences that interact with organizations. Communication has been increasingly present in this environment and plays a key role in attracting new athletes, supporters and partners that are essential to the development and stability of a sport. However, due to the lack of recognition, certain areas of communication, such as public relations are still little explored by the sporting actors. This is a gap that this project seeks to analyze. Focusing on Basketball, this project aims to highlight the current panorama of Public Relations in the sports sector and study what is done by the institutions that make up the Portuguese Basketball reality. Basketball, a historical sport, which in Portugal has gone through troubled times, due much the fault by financial instability and loss of competitive level. What coupled with external factors and the own conjecture of the country make it important to invest in a Communication Strategy. This project proposed to introduce a PR strategy that enables Basketball, the role of the Portuguese Basketball Federation, implement actions that increase interest, knowledge and a greater involvement of the public who are present in the life of this sport in Portugal.
