Sobre-endividamento das famílias e crédito malparado: o caso Região Autónoma da Madeira

Abstract

A concessão de crédito a particulares e empresas é uma das funções das instituições financeiras. Quando a economia entra em depressão, os indivíduos em situação mais crítica perante os rendimentos começam a ter dificuldade em pagar os empréstimos contraídos. Esta situação poderá dar origem ao sobre-endividamento, ao crédito malparado ou causar impactos negativos na economia. Estes problemas, atuais na sociedade portuguesa, têm levado a preocupações cada vez maiores na determinação do risco de incumprimento pelos bancos e da procura de soluções junto a organizações de apoio ao consumidor. Este artigo, de carácter exploratório, analisa o sobreendividamento e o crédito malparado das famílias em Portugal, mais concretamente, na Região Autonóma da Madeira. Com recurso a informações e estatísticas públicas e publicadas, conclui-se que os portugueses que aí vivem se encontravam cada vez menos endividados e com menos dificuldades em cumprir os seus compromissos de dívida bancária. Como tal, esta parece ser uma explicação parcial para a diminuição do crédito malparado nos bancos e o reforço da sua posição de liquidez.
