Inclusão, stress parental e suporte social

Abstract

A investigação sobre os efeitos do suporte social em famílias de crianças com Necessidades Educativas Especiais tem vindo a realçar que esta variável influencia o funcionamento parental. O presente estudo tem como objetivos: i) comparar os pais de crianças com e sem necessidades educativas especiais, no que diz respeito às variáveis suporte social e stress parental; ii) analisar as relações entre as variáveis suporte social e stress dos pais; iii) analisar a dimensão preditiva do suporte social no stress parental. Tratase de uma investigação com um plano não experimental e correlacional. A seleção dos sujeitos foi por conveniência e, para o efeito, constituímos uma amostra de 301 pais ou cuidadores. Os dados foram recolhidos em seis agrupamentos de escolas e em instituições de apoio à deficiência do distrito de Viseu. Os instrumentos de recolha de dados foram o Índice de Stress Parental (Abidin & Santos, 2003); O Questionário de Suporte Social – versão abreviada (Pinheiro & Ferreira, 2001) e o Questionário Parental (dados sociodemográficos, familiares e escolares). Os dois grupos de pais apresentam diferenças significativas em todas as avaliações totais e parciais do stress parental e, parcialmente, no suporte social (satisfação com o suporte), mas não na disponibilidade da rede social. As análises de regressão para o stress parental realçam o valor preditivo das variáveis problemas de comportamento, problemas no contexto familiar e suporte social. O suporte social emerge como uma variável nuclear, que apresenta relações significativas com o stress, surgindo com um forte poder preditivo.
