Abstract

O Sucesso Escolar é uma temática de relevante interesse para estudantes, pais, professores e instituições escolares. Torna-se importante compreender os fatores que poderão influenciar o desempenho e o sucesso dos estudantes, nomeadamente dos que frequentam o ensino superior. Este estudo procura identificar o modo como a Inteligência Emocional (EI) se relaciona com o Sucesso Escolar nos estudantes do curso de licenciatura em Enfermagem da Escola Superior de Saúde de Viseu (ESSV). Metodologia: A colheita de dados efetuou-se em Setembro de 2011, numa amostra de 287 estudantes e o tipo de estudo caracteriza-se como quantitativo não experimental, descritivo-correlacional, de corte transversal. Para a colheita de dados utilizámos um questionário de caracterização sócio demográfica e académica e uma escala de avaliação de Inteligência Emocional (EI) da autoria de Rego & Fernandes (2005) Resultados: O género, o estado civil, o tempo de deslocação até à escola e o possuir bolsa de estudo não influenciam o Sucesso Escolar dos estudantes. Verificámos que a idade e o semestre que os estudantes frequentam têm influência sobre os resultados escolares. Os fatores da escala da Inteligência Emocional exercem influência sobre o Sucesso Escolar. Conclusão: Os resultados encontrados neste estudo convidam a uma reflexão sobre a implementação de estratégias que permitam desenvolver nos estudantes a inteligência emocional, de forma a melhorar globalmente o sucesso escolar e, de modo especial, na vertente do ensino clínico.
