Parasitismo em canídeos de Óbidos

Abstract

Predominaram os exemplares adultos (98,80%) e os machos (54,22%).---- The great interest showed by the Veterinary County Offices on the implementation of prophylactic measures to minimize the risks of parasitic environmental contamination by dog faeces and its impact on Public Health, led to a study in 2009, to identify the existing parasitism and to assess the period and areas of major risk of transmission. A total of 548 dog faeces samples was collected from public spaces in nine parishes. Coprological exams were performed by qualitative and quantitative techniques. Ixodid specimens were also collected, during the anti-rabic vaccination. Egg output was registered in a total of 274 (50%) samples. Ancylostomatidae, Ascarididae, Trichuris sp. and Strongyloides sp. eggs, and Isospora sp. and Sarcocystis sp. oocysts were observed. Gravid proglotids of Dipylidium caninum was also evidenced. The overall prevalence varied for each parishes, simple infection prevailed, an increase number of positive samples from winter to autumn were observed. In a total of 166 ixodids, two species were identified: Rhipicephalus sanguineus, (150 individuals, 90,36%), and Rhipicephalus pusillus, (16 specimens, 9,64%). The average of ixodid load was 5 specimens per dog. Adults (98,80%) and males (54,22%) were predominant.
