Multiculturalidade e doença aguda

Abstract

Nos contextos de cuidados de saúde nacionais regista-se nos últimos anos uma afluência considerável de pessoas com diferentes origens culturais, enfatizada por diferentes autores (Fonseca, Silva, Esteves & McGarrigle, 2009; Reis, 2015) e que colocam aos profissionais, dificuldades específicas na interação e cuidados, relacionadas com o desconhecimento de caraterísticas étnicas e culturais e da sua mobilização em contexto clínico. Estas pessoas serão entendidas neste capítulo como imigrantes, isto é – pessoas originárias de um outro país diferente daquele que os acolhe – em relação às quais se espera que sejam detentoras ou estejam em processo de aquisição de título de residência, incluindo-se os estrangeiros a quem foi prorrogada a sua permanência com uma longa duração, procurando-se a sua integração em Portugal (SEF, 2015; 2017). O conceito de multiculturalidade, surge aqui enquadrado aos contextos de cuidados de saúde onde se pode constatar a diversidade cultural como uma situação de facto e/ou estado das coisas, como sugerem Reis e Costa (2014) e Reis (2015) nos diferentes contextos multiculturais.
