Branqueamento dentário em dentes com erosão

Abstract

Introduction: Dental appearance is increasingly important in modern society as the demand for personal satisfaction increases the demand for an attractive smile. There are several products and techniques for vital teeth whitening, which vary in concentration and type of final products released. Even if tooth whitening is considered a conservative and non-invasive treatment modality, it has some adverse effects including tooth sensitivity. Tooth wear can be defined as a progressive loss of hard dental tissues due to erosion processes. This is an irreversible loss of dental substance. Materials and methods: An electronic search was performed using PubMed/Medline®, Cochrane® and Web of Science® with a specific search strategy combining controlled terms. The study was based on the systematic evaluation criteria established by the PRISMA standard. Relevant studies were selected and assessed after reading the full text. Results: Through research strategy were identified 228 articles, of which 184 results in Pubmed, 39 in SciELO and 5 in Web of Science. After carrying out the selection process according to the previously defined inclusion and/or eligibility criteria, 13 articles were included in this review. Conclusion: In the scientific evidence it can be concluded that tooth whitening in erosion patients can increase changes in enamel causing greater side effects.
