Abstract

Menopause is a process of essential development in the woman's life path, since it brings with it physical, emotional, relational and sexual changes. The present study aimed to evaluate the relationship between lifestyle (physical exercise, nutrition and use of drugs or similar), marital satisfaction and physical and psychological quality of life in menopause and predictors of quality of life in menopause. Differences between women in different stages in menopause in psychosocial variables under study were also analyzed. This is a cross-sectional design study, based on a snowball sample, with 101 female menopausal participants. The instruments used were the sociodemographic questionnaire, World Health Organization Quality of Life - Bref, Questionnaire of Health Attitudes and Behaviors and Scale for Assessment of Satisfaction in Areas of Conjugal Life. The results reveal that there are no statistically significant differences between pre-menopausal women and peri-menopausal women in terms of lifestyle, marital satisfaction, physical and psychological quality of life. It was also found that a less healthy lifestyle is associated with a lower quality of life and greater marital satisfaction is associated with a higher quality of life. The variable professional status proved to be a predictor of physical quality of life and the variable annual income proved to be a predictor of psychological quality of life in menopause. The results of the present study may help in the development of prevention programs and the promotion of physical and psychological quality of life in menopause.
