Abstract

Since the twentieth century, the use of smartphones has increased very rapidly among the population especially in the age group of adolescents and young people. Nowadays people are constantly clinging to the smartphone in the various dimensions and / or situations of their life, where this routine can have several consequences, such as: physical, psychological, behavioral, social and affective. Through this popularization a new dependency was born - nomophobia - where it describes the panic of being without the smartphone, where recent research shows a relationship with loneliness and psychopathology. In this context and with the advancement of technologies, it is important to analyze the propensity of young people in the face of nomophobia. In order to understand this relationship, we opted for a convenience sample (500) aged between 18 and 24 years old, mostly women. To achieve this goal, the following instruments were applied: a Sociodemographic Questionnaire, the Nomophobia Questionnaire (NMP-Q), the Psychopathological Symptom Inventory (BSI) and the Fantastic Lifestyle (EVF). According to the results, we found correlation between the participants' education with nomophobia, and those with higher education are more predisposed to nomophobia. A relationship between symptomatology and nomophobia was also found. Still in this context, no relationship was found with the age, gender and lifestyle of young people in nomophobia. The results highlight the role of symptomatology, and provide clues for further research in this area
