Redes sociais e recrutamento

Abstract

The following study was developed in the context of an internship at Michael Page Porto’s office, so the conclusions reported are valid within this specific context. This study analyzes the impact of Online Social Networks as an emerging recruitment tool. To do so, in this work, two different approaches were used: one, using data obtained through the PRS – a communication and storage tool – and another one based on the direct application of questionnaires to Michael Page’s professionals in the recruitment area. The first approach allowed us to understand in which areas the PRS offered a less adjusted answer to the needs and the overall success and utilization rate of the Online Social Networks, particularly the Linkedin. The second approach brings in the recruiter’s perspective adding qualitative information to the findings obtained with the first approach and improving the understating of the recruiter’s perspective regarding the use of these tools in their daily work dynamic. The analysis of these two approaches suggested that Online Social Networks emerge as an additional recruitment tool which potentiates and amplify the characteristics of the traditional recruitment methods, but it is usually not a tool used alone. This means that the offered gains only exist when combined with other recruitment methods. Additionally, this study allowed us to understand that it is for the technological areas, for junior or very specific profiles that the PRS has a less adjusted response.
