Pretende-se, neste estudo, compreender a forma como uma mãe (escolhida como exemplo paradigmático) lida com a dor mental provocada pelo diagnóstico (ocorrido durante a gravidez) de hidronefrose no seu bebé. Constata-se que ela manifesta, para além de particularidades específicas do seu funcionamento mental, dificuldade em investir o seu bebé e, sobretudo, em pensar e verbalizar o que considera impensável: gerar um filho doente.

This study aims to understand the way in which a mother (chosen as an example) copes with the mental pain caused by the hydronephrosis in the baby. It was observed that this mother, beyond the specific traits of her mental functioning, had difficulties investing in her baby and especially in thinking and verbalizing what she considers unthinkable: to generate a sick child.
