Na literatura podemos encontrar referências que indicam que na meia-idade é possível surgirem sintomas como a diminuição de ereções matinais, diminuição da libido, alterações físicas tais como diminuição da massa corporal (Buvat et al., 2010; Pimenta, 2003; Tajar et al., 2012; Wylie et al., 2010). A Andropausa é caracterizada pela diminuição dos níveis de testosterona, que tende a afetar a saúde física e mental dos homens. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a frequência e intensidade de sintomas de andropausa e auto imagem. A amostra, de conveniência pelo sistema bola-de-neve, foi de 150 participantes, do sexo masculino, com 40 ou mais anos, (M=51,95; D.P.=8,154). Os instrumentos utilizados foram um questionário sócio-demográfico, um inventário de sintomas de meia-idade e um questionário de auto-imagem que estão inseridos no protocolo do projeto EVISA (Experiências de Vida| Saúde na Idade Adulta). Os resultados obtidos não demonstraram associação significativa da frequência e intensidade dos sintomas de andropausa e auto-imagem entre os sujeitos mais novos e os sujeitos mais velhos. Relativamente à frequência e intensidade de sintomas e auto-imagem verificou-se correlação significativa inversa entre a Satisfação e o Peso, ou seja, quanto maior o peso menor a Satisfação e a correlação significativa direta entre a Imagem e a Altura, isto é, há medida que a altura aumenta a auto-imagem também aumenta.

In the literature we can find references that indicate that in middle age can develop symptoms such as the reduction of morning erections, decreased libido, physical changes such as decreased body mass (Buvat et al., 2010; Pimenta, 2003; Tajar et al., 2012; Wylie et al., 2010). Andropause is characterized by the decrease in testosterone levels , which tends to affect the physical and mental health of men. The aim of this study was to assess the frequency and intensity of symptoms of andropause on self-image. The sample, of convenience with the snowball system, involved 150 participants, male, with 40 years and above, (M=51,95;D.P. = 8,154). A socio-demographic questionnaire was used, as well as na inventoire of middle age symptoms and a self-image questionnaire which are part of the EVISA ( Experiences of Life/Health on Adult Age) project protocol. The results didn’t show a significant association between the frequency and symptoms of andropause on self-image between the younger and the older participants. About the frequency and intensity of symptoms and self-image, there is a significant inverse correlation between satisfaction and weight, the less the satisfaction, and significant direct correlation between image and height, that is, as the height gets higher, the self-image also increases.
