As concepções das famílias no envolvimento parental

Abstract

This study aims to examine the responsibility concept that parents have about the role in their children's education, their relationship with the different practices of parental involvement and also examine whether the perception of mothers on their role in the family differs from the role of the father. It also aims to examine whether there are differences depending on the year of schooling of their children (6th and 9th grade) and the level of education of mothers. This is a study of correlational nature. In order to respond to the posed problem in this study, we used a questionnaire on parental involvement entitled "Parents and Schooling" (Pedro, I., 2007). The questionnaire was constructed based on the parental involvement of Hoover-Dempsey and Sandler (1997) and in the questionnaire, prepared in 2005 to measure the proposed model (Hoover-Dempsey et al., 2005). The obtained results indicated that there is a positive relationship between the responsibility concept of mothers in their children's school education with different practices of parental involvement. It was evident that the higher the responsibility concept of mothers was, the higher their parental involvement on the level of school work support, communication with teens, participation on school and cultural events and in communicating with the school.
