Transcendência espiritual e florescimento psicológico numa amostra da população portuguesa

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Spirituality and religiousness are increasingly targets of investigation and often associated to human being wellness. Wellbeing can be studied on two perspectives, hedonic and eudemonic. Nowadays there is a new concept, the flourishing, witch encloses this two conceptions of wellbeing. The concept of spiritually transcendence (Piedmont, 1999) is the result of the relation between spirituality and religiousness, and suggests predictive indicators of wellbeing. The intent of our study is to verify the existent relation between spiritual transcendence and flourishing. This study related by multiple linear regression the spiritual transcendence with the dimensions of flowering. For that, the study focused in a sample of 206 portuguese adult subjects, witch 72 (35%) were male and 134 (65%) female, aged between 19 and 70 years (M = 42.53 , SD = 13.3). The instruments used were the Spiritual Transcendence Scale (STS; Piedmont, 1999; Gois and Gouveia, 2014) which measures three dimensions (Universality; Prayer Fulfillment and Connectedness) of spiritual transcendence and the PERMA Profiler (Butler and Kern, 2014) that measures five pillars of wellness suggested by Seligman (2011) (positive emotion, engagement, positive relationships, meaning and accomplishment) and includes eight dimensions. Overall results indicated that the dimensions Connectedness and Prayer Fulfillment are the major predictors of individual flourishing indicators. The reduced size of the ample, its lack heterogeneity and bias of the online collection limit the generalization of these results.
