Envolvimento parental, motivações e expetativas

Abstract

As transformações incluem resultados académicos e resultados motivacionais.

ABSTRACT: The current study aims to investigate the parental involvement and the transformations that it can have on a child's life. These include changes from the perspective of academic results and motivational results. This study has two streams; the first is to understand the involvement of parents in their children’s’ schooling, and how this involvement can motivate both children in their school work, and their parents in school activities; the second stream aims at finding out the drivers for parent involvement their children’s schooling, what their expectations are for the child, from skills to academic results. This way it would be relevant to understand how these expectations may affect academic performance of the student. It is also important to understand if the children’s motivation for schoolwork increases when parents are more involved. This study particularly aims at contributing to the understanding of problems relating to the involvement of parents in the educational development of their children, as understanding the importance of parental involvement parents may change certain behaviors in benefit of their children. With the results of this research, which focuses on the Portuguese context, the key behaviors of parental involvement in their children’s education will be identified. When analyzing data the dimensions where parents feel more involved will be determined, and may be used for the student’s benefit.
