Abstract

O estudo do Suporte Social aplicado A população doente mental tem demonstrado ter um papel relevante em domínios como a intervenção em situações de crise, socialização e desinstitucionalização. Numa análise global de investigações realizadas neste âmbito, podemos identificar algumas características específicas das redes sociais de suporte nos doentes mentais, como, por exemplo, redes compostas por um número reduzido de pessoas, predominantemente membros da família ou profissionais e com um baixo índice de utilização dos recursos disponíveis. A planificação dos serviços e das intervenções ao nível do suporte social individual tem que ter em conta que existe uma relação significativa entre as redes sociais, os sistemas de suporte e a integração social da população doente mental

ABSTRACT: The study of Social Support applied to the Mentally III population, as demonstrated to play a significant role in areas like crisis intervention, socialization or deinstitucionalization. A global analysis of the research on this topic, allows the identification of some specific charateristics of the Social Support Networks of the mentally ill, composed by a reduced number of members, mostly family or professionals and a low rate of use of the resources available. Planning services and interventions on individual social support as to take in consideration the positive relation between social networks, support systems and social integration of the mentally ill.
