Pegada ecológica da aplicação de fertilizantes em citrinos na Região Algarvia

Abstract

Segundo a Comissão Mundial sobre Meio Ambiente e Desenvolvimento (1991) “o Desenvolvimento Sustentável é aquele que atende às necessidades do presente sem comprometer a possibilidade de gerações futuras atenderem às suas próprias necessidades. (…) Não pondo em risco os sistemas naturais que sustentam a vida na Terra: a atmosfera, as águas, os solos e os seres vivos”. Nesse sentido, é de extrema importância contabilizar o consumo indevido desses recursos, recorrendo a ferramentas, como Pegada de Carbono, indicando a contribuição das atividades humanas para o aumento das emissões de Gases de Efeito Estufa, por outro lado a Pegada Ecológica, avalia a dimensão da procura de bens ecológicos, pelas economias humanas, e ainda até que ponto essa procura excede ou não os limites de produção de bens e serviços por parte da biosfera. A Pegada Ecológica é o indicador que oferece uma biocapacidade apresentando a pressão humana sobre o planeta. Representando, assim, as consequências ambientais do consumo expressas numa única quantidade. O presente estudo tem como principal finalidade a aplicação destas ferramentas no caso da aplicação de fertilizantes na cultura de citrinos na Região Algarvia.
