Modelação matemática do sistema cardiovascular

Abstract

A elevada incidência de patologias no sistema cardiovascular leva à necessidade de elucidar os fenómenos associados ao escoamento do sangue nos vasos sanguí- neos. A Matemática pode ser utilizada como ferramenta, apresentando modelos que possam descrever o comportamento de todo o sistema cardiovascular. O objectivo principal deste trabalho é deduzir modelos matemáticos que possam descrever o escoamento do sangue nas grandes artérias. Para tal, é necessá- rio considerar o sangue como um uido em movimento e descrevê-lo à luz da Mecânica dos Fluidos. Este ramo da Física é tratado no Capítulo 2, onde são considerados conceitos e princípios fundamentais da Física, e obtidas as equações que governam o escoamento de um uido homogéneo e incompressível. Uma vez que, durante o escoamento, o sangue interage com a parede do vaso, deduz-se no Capítulo 3 um modelo para o deslocamento da parede. Neste modelo considerase a estrutura cilíndrica da artéria e, como sólido deformável, tem-se em conta a elasticidade da parede. No Capítulo 4, faz-se uma descrição das propriedades reol ógicas do sangue e deduz-se um modelo unidimensional para o escoamento do sangue nas grandes artérias. Estes dois modelos são os mais simples actualmente utilizados pela comunidade cientí ca no sentido de compreender o escoamento do sangue nas grandes artérias.
