Perfil cognitivo das crianças e jovens com epilepsia de ausências

Abstract

Ao longo dos últimos anos tem sido demonstrada a existência de alterações cognitivas em crianças e jovens diagnosticados com epilepsia de ausências infantil (CAE). Contudo, os estudos são ainda contraditórios pelo que não foi ainda possível traçar um perfil cognitivo destas crianças e jovens. Com o objetivo de traçar um perfil cognitivo deste grupo clínico foi aplicada uma bateria de testes neuropsicológicos a um grupo de crianças e jovens com CAE e a um grupo de crianças e jovens sem qualquer patologia. Em comparação com o grupo de controlo, o grupo clínico apresentou resultados inferiores em provas que avaliavam as capacidades visuo-percetivas, a capacidade de atenção\concentração e funções executivas. Indiciando a existência de comorbilidades entre a CAE e as funções cognitivas anteriormente referidas.
