Programas de mentoria: orientações para psicólogos da educação

Abstract

Nas Orientações para a recuperação e consolidação das aprendizagens ao longo do ano letivo 2020/2021, a Direção Geral de Educação, faz referência aos Programas de Mentoria entre pares, com o “objetivo de promover, nos alunos, ganhos ao nível das competências sociais e da comunicação, da autoestima bem como um aumento da motivação académica, do envolvimento nas atividades escolares e da melhoria dos resultados académicos” (DGE, 2020, p.1). Os programas de mentorias são já uma prática recorrente em diversos países de referência, nomeadamente nos EUA e no Reino Unido. Muitas vezes são vistos enquanto potencial recurso para a construção de competências de liderança e comunicação nos jovens, enquanto desenvolvem atividades académicas, tais como os trabalhos de casa e a preparação para testes. Contudo, nem todas as correntes concordam com esta centralidade das atividades escolares, existindo abordagens, com as quais nos identificamos, que defendem que o aconselhamento realizado por parte dos seus pares, providencia oportunidades aos estudantes para trabalharem uns com os outros, em diferentes áreas sociais e emocionais (Garringer & MacRae, 2008). Embora todas estas abordagens tenham benefícios, é importante distinguir entre tutoria e mentoria, que apresentam diferentes estruturas e orientações.
