Flotação e nanofiltração na remoção de cianobactérias e cianotoxinas de águas para consumo humano

Abstract

O risco potencial para a saúde pública devido à presença de cianobactérias em água para consumo humano só tem sido avaliado recentemente. Este risco está associado à produção potencial, por parte das cianobactérias, de compostos de sabor e odor que reduzem significativamente a qualidade da água e de toxinas que podem provocar lesões hepáticas, neuromusculares e tumores, entre outros efeitos. Desta forma, o crescimento das cianobactérias em reservatórios naturais de águas que servem para abastecimento público é um problema com que as estações de tratamento de água têm de lidar e que resulta na necessidade de actualizar os sistemas de tratamento da água. Neste sentido, o presente trabalho tem como objectivo efectuar uma revisão bibliográfica de duas tecnologias – flotação e nanofiltração – para remoção de cianobactérias e cianotoxinas. Pretende-se dotar as entidades gestoras da água de conhecimentos e opções técnicas que levem a uma actualização tecnológica dos seus sistemas de tratamento, face a este crescente problema. Com a flotação pretende-se tirar partido e estimular a capacidade de flutuação das cianobactérias, removendo-as sem provocar a sua lise e consequente libertação de cianotoxinas para a água. Com a nanofiltração pretende-se remover as cianotoxinas presentes na água.
