Abstract

Desembocadura de Rios são sistemas muito complexos e dinâmicos, naturalmente influenciados pelo rio e oceano. Esses sistemas são altamente produtivos e ecologicamente ricos e têm sido áreas atraentes para o desenvolvimento humano.Como conseqüência, esses sistemas estão sujeitos a várias pressões humanas, transformando-os em regiões altamente vulneráveis. Atualmente, os Sistemas de Desembocadura de Rios são considerados hotspots de mudanças globais, recebendo uma maior atenção em todo o mundo. O sistema do Guadiana é um exemplo de desembocadura que está sofrendomudanças no habitat, na dinâmica estuarina e no fornecimento de sedimentos e nutrientes provenientes do rio, aumentando sua vulnerabilidade.Neste trabalho, as pressões gerais que afetam a vulnerabilidade dos Sistemas de Desembocadura de Rios são revisadas. Com base em uma abordagem multidisciplinar, são propostos indicadores para uma análise da vulnerabilidade, incluindo indicadores de riscos naturais, hidrológicos, morfológicos, ecológicos, serviços de ecossistema e socioeconômicos. A desembocadura do Rio Guadiana é usada como um exemplo para a aplicação desses indicadores. Além disso, dentro do âmbito da Ecohidrologia, recomendações gerais de gestão são abordadas. A ciência da Ecohidrologia visa sustentabilidade e resiliência, integrando componentes ambientais, sociais e econômicos em estratégias de mitigação e adaptação, sendo ferramentas essenciais na gestão desses sistemas. O presente trabalho apresenta um entendimento sobre a vulnerabilidade dos Sistemas de Desembocadura de Rios, servindo de base para uma gestão sustentável e, em particular, para o sistema do Guadiana.
