Abstract

A observação de pacientes com Doença de Alzheimer demonstrou que estes apresentam grandes dificuldades em realizar atividades de vida diária, desde o início da doença, tais como, acompanhar conversas que envolvem mais de uma pessoa ou que decorrem em lugares com muito barulho. Os cuidadores frequentemente referem que os pacientes se distraem facilmente, são incapazes de se concentrar ou que se confundem facilmente em tarefas que realizavam sem dificuldade. Estas observações e relatos levaram à especulação sobre o possível contributo dos défices de atenção para as dificuldades manifestadas e se estes défices poderiam ser uma característica precoce da Doença de Alzheimer. O presente trabalho teve então como objetivo avaliar a atenção dividida, bem como a seletiva e a sustentada, em pacientes na fase inicial da Doença de Alzheimer. Os resultados deste estudo evidenciaram que os pacientes com Doença de Alzheimer na fase inicial têm um desempenho significativamente pior em tarefas de atenção dividida e seletiva em comparação com idosos saudáveis. Porém, nas tarefas de atenção sustentada não se verificaram diferenças, sugerindo que esta encontra-se normal, pelo menos em fases iniciais da Doença de Alzheimer.
