El real sitio de Almadenejos en Ciudad Real (siglos XVIII‐XIX) en un contexto minero‐metalúrgico

Abstract

El patrimonio minero-industrial de Almadenejos (Ciudad Real) constituye un conjunto patrimonial auténtico ligado a la explotación y metalurgia del azogue (mercurio) que supuso un complemento indispensable para cubrir las necesidades de este metal en las explotaciones de plata y oro en América por el procedimiento de amalgamación. El estudio está centrado en la minería y la metalurgia del azogue en Almadenejos, desde el siglo XVIII hasta algo más de la mitad del siglo XIX, con el objeto de alcanzar el mayor grado de conocimiento que permita la protección de sus elementos patrimoniales más destacables y su integración en el parque minero de Almadén. El origen de Almadenejos (Almadén pequeño o mina pequeña) fue minero y todas sus minas fueron explotadas anteriormente por los romanos. La evolución histórica y tecnológica de estas minas está ligada a las minas de Almadén de las que dependieron desde su descubrimiento hasta su cierre. Estas minas siempre pertenecieron a la Corona y, posteriormente, al Estado. La metalurgia del azogue supuso un intercambio tecnológico entre América y España y viceversa. La tecnología empleada en esta época, fruto de este intercambio, fueron los hornos aludeles (inventados por el español Lope Saavedra) que llegaron a tener una vida de 283 años. La única tecnología con la que llegó a compararse fueron los hornos de cámara o de Idria (procedentes de la actual Eslovenia) de origen alemán.
