Entre dos expulsiones. Los moriscos granadinos en Andalucía (1570-1610). Propuesta de análisis

Abstract

We still do not know much about the morisco minority from Granada, settled in the interior of the Crown of Castile between 1570 and 1610. Even less, unfortunately, for the Andalusian case. The basic objective of this paper is to outline the main lines of future research on the topic, an analysis that will be focus on the social problems generated in the 16th and 17th century Andalusia by the presence of a large morisco population within a largely christian society. A reality dominated by conflicts, but also by peaceful coexistence for decades; by economic cooperation and cultural clashes; in short, by integration and rejection, whose greatest exponent was the Expulsion issued by Philip III, that put an end to the morisco presence in Spain. Only an ambitious, collective and interdisciplinary study may reveal the many shades thar cover what was the daily reality of this excluded group.
