Problem-based learning and collaborative learning are teaching methodologies with proven effectiveness in university teaching. They allow to work basic and transversal competences: critical reasoning, the capacity for teamwork or decision-making and leadership. The Degree in Architecture and the Degree in Building Engineering at UCAM Universidad Católica de Murcia, put into practice in the academic year 2020-2021 a methodology that combines both learning systems, with the aim of motivating students to carry out their practical course work, involving several subjects, courses and degrees, creating a multidisciplinary team. The impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on students has been used to propose them to analyze the deficiencies that residential buildings have shown during confinement, to establish protocols for sanitizing common spaces and proposing distribution alternatives of the outdoor areas for the exclusive use of the different coexistence groups, improving the habitability of the buildings and the quality of life of its inhabitants. The experience has been extremely satisfactory. It has been achieved to motivate the students, to awake their critical thinking skills and their ability to work as a team, providing original and high-quality solutions that improved their academic results.
