Abstract

Obtaining forage in summer such as corn has the problem that it can lead to a high load of mycotoxins and when used in dairy cattle, they can be eliminated by milk and must be discarded for human consumption. Likewise, it can have associated organic damage, mainly liver. To corroborate this hypothesis, an experiment was conducted with sheep that were given forage with a high amount of mycotoxins, and blood parameters were evaluated for liver damage and animal welfare, and necropsies were performed in search of lesional findings. It was concluded that a high amount of mycotoxins produced worse parameters associated with animal welfare and periportal necrotic lesions in the hepatic parenchyma. These data can be extrapolated to dairy cattle.
