A collection of bacterial strains isolated from raw seafood has been studied regarding its biocide tolerance. Viable bacterial counts obtained for most samples analyzed ranged from 103 to 107 colony forming units (CFU) per gram. Most isolates were Gram-negative bacilli, except for raw processed products where Gram-positive bacilli were more abundant. Highest percentages of biocide tolerance were obtained for triclosan, oxonia, benzalkonium chloride and hexadecylpyridinium chloride. In general, biocide tolerance is low.
