Abstract

RESUMEN: Se estudia la g?nesis del yacimiento de paligorskita de Bercimuel (Segovia), que se sit?a a techo del relleno mioceno de una depresi?n intracrat?nica, alargada en direcci?n SO-NE, y se ubica en la parte suroriental de la Cuenca del Duero. Pertenece al Mioceno superior. Adem?s, se hace un estudio complementario de otras secciones y afloramientos localizados en el entorno de este yacimiento. La paligorskita, que puede alcanzar el 80% de la roca, aparece asociada a cuarzo, illita y caolinita como minerales heredados, y a esmectitas e interestratificados del tipo esmectita-illita como minerales de transformaci?n. El relleno de dicha depresi?n se efect?a por dos sistemas de abanicos aluviales procedentes de las rocas preneogenas existentes en los bloques elevados que flanquean la depresi?n. El dep?sito de Bercimuel se asienta pr?ximo a la uni?n de ambos abanicos aluviales, sobre un extenso nivel de caliche, lo que unido a sus caracter?sticas litol?gicas, estructurales, texturales y mineral?gicas permite proponer un origen para la paligorskita a partir: 1) de la alteraci?n de los filosilicatos y del cuarzo presentes en el perfil; y 2) de los solutos disueltos en las aguas de escorrent?a procedentes de la alteraci?n de los relieves constituidos por rocas preneogenas (gneises, esquistos, pizarras, dolom?as, calizas, etc.). Considerando los rasgos de hidromorfismo presentes en el perfil se deduce la existencia de un nivel fre?tico fluctuante, condicionado por la existencia del caliche subyacente que ejerci? como nivel impermeable. Esta circunstancia pudo ser clave para el desarrollo de la alteraci?n de minerales en el perfil y para lograr las condiciones qu?micas (concentraci?n de cationes, pH) y f?sicas (temperatura, clima) requeridas en la g?nesis de paligorskita. En relaci?n con la presencia de un nivel fre?tico fluctuante, est? el hecho de que la alteraci?n disminuye de muro a techo del perfil o lo que es lo mismo se desarrolla mejor en los niveles m?s permanentemente empapados de la parte inferior de aqu?l. Dadas las excelentes propiedades tecnol?gicas (capacidad de adsorci?n y decoloraci?n) observadas, el yacimiento presenta inter?s econ?mico.
