I: Los escarpes del Tormes

Abstract

[EN]Are described in detail in this paper the Paleogene escarpments that lie north of the river Tormes, between Salamanca and Babilafuente, establishing three distinctly different stratigraphic units we have called "Salamanca sandstone," of Cabrerizos ", and" Aldearrubia "and correspond to pre-Lutetian, Lutetian and Ludiense respectively. An attempt to correlate sequence has yielded positive results in the first two. Its constituent minerals and fossils found show that the Eocene climate was humid, tropical, with a gradual trend towards aridity. The group has been affected by the Alpine Orogeny, which produced a tectonic fractures.
