Abstract

[EN] The iconography of the coins of the Hispania Citerior is very important to understand the mythology, socio-cultural system and ideology of local equites which ruled the civitates or oppida which minted coins. Their interpretation is evolutive: the male head, originated from a ethno-poliadic divinity, would be identified as a heros kt?stes becoming finally the representation of the authority. The horseman can be interpreted as a heros equitans Hispanus. All these coins had indigenous types and legends and they show local ideology and functions because they were minted by the ?lites of Iberian and Celtiberian towns. Thereby, its Rom?n origin must be considered a "historiograhic" topos due to the growing assimilation of Rom?n influences.
