In this text we compile the grounds and reasons why the Virtual Private Networksare being strongly introduced in the context of data communication and computer security. It is also reasoned out the election of a specfic Virtual Private Network (OpenVPN), in order to be implemented and tested. We deeply analyze this kind of Virtual Network, the different scenarios in which it can be applied, as well as its confiuration and installation. Finally we analyze the achieved results and the possible security problems that may arise.
