Abstract

Japanese annexation over korean territory was one of the darkest periods and most remembered by the korean population due to the subjugation, repression, and attempts to eradicate their culture and identity to which they were subjected. The system known as "comfort women? was one of the most atrocious episodes, in which thousands of women from different parts of the world were deceived or, in other cases, abducted to be sexually enslaved and forced to "serve" dozens of men per day. The purpose of this thesis is to delve deeper into the mechanisms of this horrific system, the hardships and inhumane conditions these women endured, as well as their ongoing social Struggle and the impact it has had on them. This will allow for a more in-depth exploration of the facts rather than a superficial understanding. Through a qualitative approach based primarily on testimonies and interviews with victims, along with an analysis of various historical sources, this thesis aims to achieve a greater understanding of the events, highlighting both the japanese justification and the perspective of the survivors. Although it is a historical tragedy, the issue of "comfort women" remains controversial. Even today, they are still abandoned by the judicial system, which, along with Japan's persistent denial and diplomatic tensions with South Korea, continues to cause deep pain for the victims.
