Bases moleculares del envejecimiento celular

Abstract

[ES] Con el paso del tiempo, las c?lulas se debilitan, se hacen menos eficientes y no son capaces de cumplir sus funciones vitales correctamente, es decir, envejecen. Esto, es extrapolable al organismo que las porta, haci?ndolo mucho m?s susceptible a enfermedades neurodegenerativas, cardiacas, m?sculoesquel?ticas y cancerosas, entre otras. En los ?ltimos a?os, la investigaci?n en envejecimiento celular se ha convertido en un campo de intensa preocupaci?n social y econ?mica, ante la existencia de una poblaci?n cada vez m?s envejecida. Es por ello, por lo que numerosos grupos de investigaci?n, a lo largo de d?cadas, han ido desgranando las distintas bases moleculares que provocan el envejecimiento de las c?lulas: desde aquellos mecanismos que afectan al material gen?tico, pasando por los sistemas de producci?n y degradaci?n de prote?nas, hasta el propio metabolismo. El conocimiento de todos estos mecanismos resulta fundamental, ya que su entendimiento permite y permitir? el desarrollo de terapias que podr?n hacer frente al envejecimiento celular y a sus enfermedades, logrando as?, una mayor longevidad y calidad de vida.
