Abstract

El escritor siciliano Leonardo Sciascia fue el primero que se atrevi? a abordar conjuntamente los motivos de mafia y corrupci?n pol?tica en sus obras. Su principal objetivo era ofrecer un an?lisis l?cido, realista y exceptivo acerca de la incontestable existencia y presencia de Cosa nostra en Sicilia y en todo el pa?s transalpino. En el presente art?culo analizaremos c?mo, a trav?s de su producci?n literaria y de su profundo compromiso pol?tico y social, Sciascia trat? de refutar la tesis generalizada seg?n la cual la Mafia era un comportamiento cultural y una mentalidad propios de los sicilianos. Asimismo, observaremos c?mo esta generalizaci?n hist?ricamente infundada ha creado un aura de leyenda y hero?smo en torno al fen?meno mafioso que, a su vez, ha dado lugar a una mitificaci?n del crimen organizado, especialmente en el cine y en la televisi?n.
