Abstract

En este ensayo se propone una reflexi?n sobre la omisi?n de la pen?nsula Ib?rica del paradigma del humanismo en su periodo cl?sico por parte de la bibliograf?a especializada durante gran parte del siglo XX. Una estricta delimitaci?n de este movimiento, o su estudio aislado en tradiciones nacionales propias de la modernidad y ajenas a su desarrollo hist?rico son, en parte, motivos de esta exclusi?n. Una homologaci?n acr?tica de la tradici?n ib?rica con otras formas del humanismo no dar?a, sin embargo, cuenta de su riqueza y particularidades. Respecto al reino de Castilla, la figura que mejor representa el sincretismo entre modelos intelectuales cuya convivencia es productiva, es Alfonso de Cartagena, que desarrolla su acci?n y pensamiento tanto en el ?mbito civil como en el eclesi?stico. A partir de su obra se sustancia en Castilla la penetraci?n de un vocabulario caracter?stico del humanismo italiano que es contempor?neo a la difusi?n en ?mbitos concretos, ya sea en lat?n o lengua vern?cula, de las diversas propuestas que se confrontan en Italia. Su presencia en Castilla no es pasiva ni mim?tica, sino que se integra en una realidad hist?rica y cultural en la que la conjugaci?n de escolasticismo y humanismo deriva en un intercambio fruct?fero que genera nuevas oportunidades textuales.
