Abstract

[EN]We live in a world filled with information, yet not everyone is able to access it. Cognitive accessibility is the right that advocates for access to information, and easy-to-read materials are one of the tools used to ensure this. The process of creating easy-to-read texts consists of two stages (adaptation and validation), with the final product being a cognitively accessible text for individuals with low reading comprehension, such as people with intellectual disabilities. This study aims to create, adapt, and validate a story in an easy-to-read format. To adapt the story to this format, a series of changes were made during the adaptation process to ensure reading comprehension, in line with the UNE 153102 EX standard and the recommendations of the ALF-INICO web application. Once the text was adapted, it was subjected to validation, a process in which the target audience suggests necessary modifications to make it fully accessible from a cognitive standpoint. During this validation process, the suggested changes were introduced by six individuals with intellectual disabilities, who formed the validation group. Additionally, the techniques used to assess the validators? comprehension of the text were documented, along with an exercise designed to assess the depth of their textual representation. The positive results regarding the validators' understanding of the story demonstrate the usefulness of easy-to-read materials in facilitating access to reading.
