Catecismo en la encrucijada

Abstract

Probably few phenomena in history have drawn as much attention as the so-called Spanish War of Independence. The historiography on the subject is very abundant and brings together studies that have made the history of political culture their favorite field of curiosity. In this perspective, studies on political catechisms have been the object of attention on repeated occasions. However, the subject is presented as an interesting field of development that still has a lot to exploit. This article aims to analyze the political catechisms that were published in the Spanish Monarchy in the period between 1808 and 1814. We propose that they were transformed during this time of monarchical crisis into effective instruments of political indoctrination by consolidating as didactic devices par excellence in the passage from a civil catechism to a political catechism. In the framework of the history of political culture, the text addresses the analysis of different political catechisms published in the context of the War of Independence.
